Romanian-Ukrainian pairing Gabriela Ruse/Marta Kostiuk qualified without a game for the semifinals of the women’s doubles event at the Roland Garros tennis tournament, after Russian Mirra Andreeva/Vera Zvonareva failed to compete in Wednesday’s quarterfinals.
Andreeva (17) and Zvonareva (39) withdrew after the teenager qualified for the semifinals of the singles event with a 6-7 (5/7), 6-4, 6-4 win over world number two Arina Sabalenka of Belarus.
Ruse and Kostiuk secured a EUR 148,000 cheque and 780 WTA doubles points.
